Someone asked me yesterday....

How to bake a double crust pie...and I honestly don't know! I need to investigate pies and begin to hone my skills at baking pies- as if I need ONE more thing to eat, right? I begin my journey of pies now. Will let you know how it turns out!

I promise, it's not going to kill you...

When I first met my husband Dave, I knew that I might cook some things that he might not 'get' or have tried or knew that it could be fried.... and after his first experience with the traditional southern New Years' Day meal, I knew it would be more than interesting. Dave is a transplanted Yankee from Western New York, and he had never heard of having blackeyed peas slow cooked with hog jowl, collard greens (again with the hog jowl) and cornbread on New Years' Day to ensure good luck and prosperity for the new year. I was shocked- I guess I never knew it was just a 'southern' thing- I thought EVERYONE had to eat - or at least take a bite of- this meal on NYD! After I explained the meaning, he was still leery, but willing to try. And he absolutely loved it-- going down that is.... For the next couple of days, he experienced a 'pain' that did not go away. I couldn't imagine that it had anything to do with the NYD meal, but alas it did. Short story- he can't handle the greens!

And from that moment on, Dave swears I tried to kill him!

So this is our story- I have changed some of my cooking to fit his tastes and the Northern ways- and learned that Bisquick is sold up north! Quite simply, I tend to cook as I was raised to cook: southern and sweet! I will cut some calories here and there, but generally, these are recipes that would make my grandmother proud!
